Curation of Collections
Private collections of contemporary art generally focus on the visceral practice of consumption, collectors consume what appeals to them aesthetically, emotionally, and to an extent subconsciously. How collectors evolve from general consumers to narrators of history in an intuitive way can be complex and a life journey. Raymond works with private collectors and independent institutions to build and curate that historical narrative, through works in collections, sharing and disseminating with the public. The power of collection curations is demonstrating diversity, that is not necessarily reflective of monetary value, rather the human interactions with objects, sound, visual culture, and ultimately modernity.
Social Contract is a thematic exploration of Jean-Jacques Rousseau's Social Contract theory. Through a diverse array of art, ephemera, and historical objects, the exhibition will highlight moments in history where the relationship and boundaries between the state and its citizens have been critically examined and challenged, greatly impacting the common citizen. This comes at a particularly poignant moment as the United States gears up for the 2024 presidential election, considered by many as the most significant in modern history, that will change and influence humanity. Moreover, a deeper understanding of the fragile yet vital relationship between the state and its citizens will be articulated. It will encourage reflection on how past and present challenges can inform the future of democratic governance and civil society. The exhibition aims to be not only a historical exploration but also a timely commentary on the current political climate globally.
